AIT2 Aptos network is the second phase of the Aptos incentivized testnet program, which is a series of testnets designed to test and improve the Aptos network before its mainnet launch. Aptos is a new Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network that aims to provide a secure, low-cost, and developer-friendly environment for building decentralized applications (dapps) on the Ethereum blockchain. Aptos is powered by Optimism, an open source software stack that enables fast and cheap transactions on Ethereum.
AIT2 ran from July 12 to July 22, 2021, with 200 validators from the Aptos community. The key objectives for AIT2 were to maintain a strong community of node operators and test the staking and node reputation frameworks. The participants had to register their validator nodes on-chain, add stake to their validator accounts, set initial lockup time for their stake, join and leave the validator set, and ensure their node liveness and participation. The participants who met the success criteria were rewarded with Aptos tokens.
AIT2 was a successful test driven by the enthusiasm and dedication of the Aptos community. The nodes were spread across 44 countries and 110 cities around the world. The team recognized the efforts made by many and modified the rewards ranges to be more inclusive. The team also shared some updates and plans for the next phases of the testnet program and the mainnet launch.
