Let's talk about DAO and Aptos?

Hi all , this is SpaceMo from the Aptos Ukrainian HUB community and today I want to talk a little bit about what DAO is and the role of Aptos in helping to develop DAO.

Aptos is rapidly bursting into the cryptoworld environment and has already stirred up news resources that today we see the birth of a new competitor to solana and ethereum.

Everything about the technical side is a breakthrough, everything about creating DAOs and communities - trailing behind. WEB 3.0 is not only technology, but also people, communities and DAOs that work for the benefit of the entire ecosystem.

So let’s understand what DAO is and what the first steps are.

The way of the DAO begins from community.

Community - is a group of people with common interests, values, and mission. They regularly interact with each other and (most importantly) recognize themselves as one group.

There are 3 things that make connecting people into one community:

  • The first and most important thing is whether these people feel a sense of belonging and are aware of themselves as one group
  • The second is whether they interact with each other directly, without a moderator or intermediary, and whether something is born out of this interaction: new initiatives, solutions, ideas, help, friendship.
  • The third is whether there is regularity in communication.

The Problem of Communities and Aptos.

The stage for creating a DAO is precisely the communities in which people come together around a common interest or a common goal.

Language and understanding is an a priori important element of communication.

I’ve written before about the importance of creating language threads in the forum and how it’s a great start to community development - just a reminder again.

Briefly with the community we have figured out, but what is the DAO?

To start with, we can go back to the words from which the acronym came: "decentralized autonomous organization. Based on the abbreviation we can interpret it this way:

DAOs must be free from centralized government ( decentralized ), act independently of any entities ( autonomy ) and be an organization.

It is very important to realize that decentralization and autonomy cannot always be 100%. And the answer to the question “whether a DAO is decentralized or fully autonomous” cannot be answered “YES” or “NO”, “how much of DAO is decentralized and autonomous” this is the key question. Each DAO positions itself differently on this spectrum

If you read Wikipedia and other sources, the concept of DAO there is already outdated and it is controversial:
“is an organization constructed by rules encoded as a computer program (smart-contract)”.

  • All rules can be prescribed in the Manual and partially automated through smart-contracts.

How do I understand DAO?

DAO is an organizational form that coordinates the efforts and resources of members through transparent rules and is partially or fully automated by smart contracts, operates in a WEB 3.0 network and has three basic elements: decentralization, autonomy and organization. These are entities that have the common goal of creating value.

DAO Specifications.

First you need to understand how it is **owned** and how it is **organized**.

The difference between the DAO and other organizations that have a hierarchical structure is that the ownership does not belong to investors or founders, but to interested members of the community who have been selected by vote.

The organization

DAO aims to be "autonomous”. Previously, this term referred to the desire of the DAO not to depend on the interference of public or private sector actors in the management of their operation.

With the development of blockchain technology and DAOs, the term is already emerging much more on an individual level. Participants can join a DAO and organize their own work and the work of the DAO. Create complex systems in such a way “hierarchy” type organizations would not be able to coordinate their work how they can do.

DAO types

Since the first DAO 2016 has passed 6 years, and during this time we have seen how the WEB 3.0 has evolved, DAO has evolved too. There are dozens of categories and names of DAOs: technical DAOs, investment DAOs, artist DAOs, media DAOs, creator DAOs, charity DAOs and so on. We can divide them all into two categories - technical DAOs and social DAOs.

Technical DAOs tend to focus on building in the crypto space. They also tend to perform more of their actions on-chain.

Social DAOs primarily exist to bring together groups of people, and find new ways for them to interact and convene. Governance is more likely to be off-chain, or non-existent.

It is not necessary to put strict boundaries between these categories as they are closely intertwined with each other.

DAO Tools / Formation

A community with a purpose, with a common interest and a desire to benefit the ecosystem is already partially ready to become a DAO. The rest is just the tools from the WEB 3.0 world, which are the key to create a DAO.

Stage 1. First tool is the forum or discussion platform.
- Why a forum? This is a platform from the WEB 2.0 world, isn’t it?`

Building a DAO inside the Aptos network is impossible without an open space for discussion, an archive of all posts and suggestions, everything that has a formal character.

This first stage is very important and for this the Aptos team should also participate and create threads within the forum to help in the formation of the DAO.

Governance - is the place where different DAOs write their proposals at the official level.

And subcategories:

  1. DAO proposals - suggestions for creating a new DAO, suggestions for sponsoring a DAO, and so on.
  2. The threads of already existing DAOs - suggestions, discussion, changes, announcements, and so on.

For example: Aptos itself initiates creation of management DAO of some category which includes specialists from Aptos team and some crypto-enthusiasts for work coordination and communication between these categories. Reduces the operations workload?

Stage 2. Voting tool.

The organizational aspect of DAO is defined by two different elements: discussion and voting, which give DAO two basic definitions: Formality and Transparency.

How to vote? By what to vote? Where to vote? - are questions worth asking today.
Do I vote based on the size of my wallet? Or vote by reputation? Vote by native token or DAO token?

After the debate on the discussion platform is over, a vote tool is just what is needed to make a decision.

One popular voting platform is Snapshot on the Ethereum network - for more information on voting types, search in google))

Step 3. Multisig wallet or treasury.
The term “Multisig” which is a special type of digital signature that allows two or more users to sign transactions together as a group.

DAO on the basis of its activity begins to receive or accumulate funds/assets and the decision on their use should not be concentrated in one hand. This is what Multisig wallet is for, as a tool to control funds.

There are many more tools for DAO, but today we are talking about the basic tools for the beginnings of work DAO.

Let’s summarize.

Creating a DAO has a range of formalities and stages to go through.

From the community, to writing a proposal to create a new DAO, to selecting management candidates, to voting and creating a treasury, these are steps that any community that plans to call itself a DAO and wants to interact with the ecosystem must go through.

With all of the above writed I wanted to outline the image of DAO and convey some concepts to the community, to get the message to the Aptos team that we want to build our DAO, our products and solutions for the ecosystem, but we can’t do this without your support.

Thanks for your attention! :innocent:

This is very much educative and interesting…I had a clear understanding :+1::+1:

Thanks for your review!

Thanks for the insight.

Appreciate your effort at organising this whole thing in place, good job dear :clap:

Having DAO tools in the Aptos ecosystem would greatly boost the way our community interacts with each other. Here’s hoping someone develops this idea!

Good read! :sparkles:

Our developer is already studying MOVE and I think that in the near future we will be able to start developing DAO tools. Perhaps we will mentor new programmers to help them learn MOVE.

As I said before - without the support of the Aptos team we won’t get very far. All the work shall be done step by step, especially when it is about DAO.

I want to add that the support of the community is just as important, so thank you! :kissing_heart:

Good article! Aptos really should support the developing of such idea and direction. Probably it will give a push to improvements and engagement more people.

Very interesting, well done work

Excellent stuff mate. A very good read members. Pls read it twice, guys.

Thanks for the review!

Somethings cannot be seen once. Until it is repeated.

Well done , nd thanks fr d enlightenment

In NO manner can an investor ingore this infrastructure. So lovely and promising

All support to the team!

Yeah, it is a wonderful job indeed

No investor can ignore this infrastructure. Yes sure.

Thanks man.:+1:t4:

Thanks guys for such support!

Hopefully very soon we will start to build our DAO, to develop products within the network.

Hello @james !
Will there be any feedback from the Aptos team?
