How to write content that keeps 99.9% of your readers engaged

If you’re an aspiring Web3 content writer, this is the single most important message you’ll ever read.

Here’s why…

You see, we live in a time and age where the human attention span is pretty short (only 8 secs).

You either grab your readers’ attention in 8 seconds or completely lose them.

This is because there is a ton of stuff on the internet today which could sway your readers’ attention.

Well, that’s the sad news.

But the good news is I’ve compiled a few tips that will make your content interesting to read… and keep your readers’ engaged.

  • Define your target audience : Who exactly are you directing your message to? What are their pain points? What are they interested in? Age bracket? etc. are very important questions to answer when writing your content. This helps you connect on a deeper level with people who resonate with your message.

For instance - I started the second paragraph with, ‘If you’re an aspiring Web3 content writer,…’. This means that my message is directed at them ONLY - not everyone.

  • Write captivating headlines : This is the single most important piece of your article. Your headline should be powerful enough to grab your readers’ by the neck, and force them to read the body copy. Headlines that include benefits convert more often than the others. Find a way to incorporate this in your headline.

  • Follow up with a powerful paragraph : Remember, the use of headlines alone won’t cut it. The second sentence needs to be powerful enough to reel them in… and keep them reading.

  • Storytelling: Humans love stories. We are creatures of emotion.

You see, the ability to tell stories that resonate with your audience will keep you miles ahead. This will make your readers connect with your message on an emotional level.

  • Write and direct your message to one person alone. Use the second-person pronoun ‘you’ often. This helps to set a conversational tone between you and your readers.

  • Use pictures that align with your message to keep your readers’ attention sometimes.

  • Keep your sentences short and concise. It aids readability. You can use the https://hemingwayapp.com/ to ensure this before putting out your content.

  • Do not use complex words while writing. Keep it simple and basic. Use the language of your target audience.
Legendary marketer, David Ogilvy, said, 'I do not know the rules of grammar. If you’re trying to persuade people to do something, or buy something, it seems to me you should use their language.

  • Use bullet points to make lists. It aids readability.

  • Use appropriate punctuation marks where necessary, and leave spaces between sentences.
