So, I know this guy who got a freelance gig from a US client. Of course! You should know how it takes like forever to receive US dollars from outside Nigeria. He wanted his money fast and couldn’t rely on Naija banks. Mek money no cast! :upside_down_face: So he thought of cryptocurrency.

Hence that is what crypto does effectively. You can send and receive coins almost instantly, no matter your location. My guy began searching the web for fast crypto sites that would help him get his money.

Boom! He found two crypto sites that seemed legit to him. Shapali, he started out by creating a new account on one exchange but quickly became frustrated when he realized that he wouldn’t be able to transfer all money at once to his account, but in bits. :raised_back_of_hand:

He then decided to use the other exchange. After a few hours, he had finished setting up his account and generated his BTC wallet. His boss then transferred BTC worth $2000 to his wallet address. He received all of his payment in Bitcoin on the exchange :pensive: and went to bed.

The next day, he woke up and realized that he couldn’t log into his account again. Have his $BTC gone?! He changed passwords multiple times, and kept reloading the site thinking it was network, but to no avail.

AH! He was like, OK, lemme contact the crypto trading site. He navigated everywhere on that website, yet he didn’t find any contact info, not even email address.

Omo! His heart sank as he realized that he had been scammed out of his money. Like play, like play, he was doped of his coins, that’s about 2,000 US dollars, which is about 1.46 million Naira. See gobe!

He began to search on Google about the trading site and saw many reviews of how the site have been scamming people. Ehn eye clear!

Guys, his money was gone! There are many things he didn’t get right from the beginning, e.g., He didn’t check reviews before using those websites. Not all exchanges are legit, even if they pop up on Google search.

Beautiful write up. Unfortunately its quite easy for people to get scammed in the crypto space. Money attracts both the good and the bad.
