tell me more, is it on APTOS? (if so why ethermail)
What differentiates it from other web3 mailboxes?

It’s not build on Aptos.
To be eligible to send email using Ethermail, you need to have at least one transaction on Ethereum network, and this is to protect spams. If you do not want to execute a transaction on ETH because of gas, you could also verify by SMS (currently Europe and North America number)
Hope there will be similar applications in Aptos ecosystem in the future!

After their tokens out, you will be rewarded by reading emails! It’s kind of like Brave to browser industry.
Missed Barve browser at its early stage? then do not miss this one.

Now it is free to send and receive emails using mailboxes, so why do people use wallets and pay Gas fees to send and receive emails? Therefore, this field is still completely unable to compete with traditional mailboxes.

No you don’t need to pay gas to send email, rather, you could earn naive tokens by reading email when they fully launch.
The only requirement to send email is to prove you are not a bot, which is to prevent spams. There are two ways to do that, you could either have at least one transaction on the ETH network of your wallet, or use SMS to verify (currently only availble to Euro and North America)

Unfortunately bots and airdrop-hunters have a lot of transactions on their wallets

The aim is to reduce the bot spams, and also need to consider the barriers for most users.
