Aptos Labs awarded $50,000 grant to Cornell University

Aptos Labs has awarded a $50,000 grant to Cornell University professor Lorenzo Alvis to recruit students to work on an improved blockchain concept. Lorenzo Alvis teaches computer science and conducts research in distributed computing and game theory. Avery Ching, technical director and co-founder of Aptos Labs, said, “Professor Alvis’ students are exploring new blockchain systems and developing real-world, scalable uses and applications that will benefit the industry in the future.” The grant will fund student research on scaling blockchain performance using a customer-centric architecture. Alvis’ team will develop the concept of a fault-tolerant, secure and decentralized network. Ultimately, the system will have to work even if some of its nodes fail or are attacked. According to Alvis, they will also have to figure out how to adapt existing blockchain-based applications to their architecture so they can take advantage of it.
